Description

Pine County provides case management services to assist eligible children and their families. Children's Mental Health Case Management services are voluntary and may be accepted or refused by the parents. The case manager can assist in the coordination of a comprehensive mental health assessment, if one is not currently available, to determine the child's mental health needs.

Reasons to refer:

big, unmanageable tantrums that can’t be de-escalated
Anxiety symptoms (tummy aches, unreasonable and debilitating fear)
Signs of distress that seem to go beyond the norm

Pine County CMH can work with families through an “assessment period” where they will help families access diagnostic assessments and mental health services. In order to enter case management, the child must have a diagnostic assessment completed and/or have a statement of severe emotional disturbance. If at the end of the “assessment period” there is not a diagnosis/statement of severe emotional disturbance, CMH would likely refer to the Early Childhood Family Support Coach, various family therapies (attachment therapy, play therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, parenting education, family psychoeducation, etc., as the challenges often stem from an issue with the home environment or family system. If there is a developmental disability the case is referred to waivered services/DD case management.
